Whale Watching Walk in Sydney's Royal National Park
Expect a challenge as you walk 15km along pristine coastline, experiencing awesome headland views, Depression-era hermit caves, unique sandstone formations and the secluded Marley beaches. Begin the day visiting one of the largest Aboriginal rock engraving sites in Sydney, which features carvings of Gurruwul - the Orca - totem of the local Dharawal people, and learn about the ancient significance of whales to the region.
With 180° views up and down the coast during the walk, it's likely guests will spot at least a humpback whale, with a few lucky enough to spot the more rare Southern Right whale frolicking out to sea below the sandstone cliffs.
Owner operator Ian Wells says, "Imagine your favourite patch of Sydney's coast... now take away all the buildings and all the people and you're left with what we get to walk through every day - kilometres of deserted coastline of Royal National Park. It means when you do spot whales, you're sharing the experience with a few other keen bushwalkers rather than carloads and boatloads of people elbowing for prime position."
The day is about much more than ocean life as native plants and animals are pointed out and local European and Aboriginal history explained, allowing guests to learn about Australia's oldest national park during the bushwalk.
Founded in 2009, Royal Coast Walks believes that Sydney is a place of supreme natural beauty with sights and experiences only accessible on foot. We believe that walking through a landscape allows you to engage with nature and create incomparable memories. We know that a true understanding of a place requires time and learning, so we guide supported walks at a relaxed pace for guests to absorb the wonder of Sydney's outdoors.
The Marley Tour (full day Royal National Park bushwalk) departs year-round on Tuesdays, Thursdays and alternate Saturday/Sundays, meeting at Cronulla ferry wharf at 8:15am. Tour costs $149 per adult ($135 concession) and includes lunch and snacks, goody bag, return ferry fare from Cronulla to Bundeena, National Park entry fees and expert guide. Bookings essential.

Metro Inn Miranda Adds New Superior Floor
Located at the highest point of Miranda and popular with business and leisure travellers alike, Metro Inn Miranda has always been heavily booked with guests having to make a reservation well in advance of their stay.
Manager Dale Harlick said when the top floor of the six-storey building became available a few years ago, it presented the ideal opportunity to add to the motel's existing 40 family and standard rooms with a new level of accommodation.

Previously used for office space, the penthouse level has now been converted into 14 new Superior rooms, all with oversized windows to allow guests to take advantage of the breathtaking views. Corner suites have kitchenettes and all rooms are modern and tastefully decorated, providing a new level of outstanding comfort and quality without the hefty prices of the city. Many of the new rooms have disabled access.
The addition of a Superior level ushers in a new era for the hotel, which will soon change its name to Metro Hotel Miranda to mark its improved accommodation offering. Yet Dale Harlick said the hotel would not change its focus on providing exceptional hospitality, service and dedication to excellence for which it is renowned.
"We will always aim for our service to be impressive and for our guests to experience the magic and wonder of life in the Sutherland Shire," Dale said. "We know many of our guests by name and will continue to welcome them."

The History of Metro Inn Miranda - Metro Hotels

On Tuesday, April 9, 1975 the Leader published an article about the near completion of a new, six storey commercial complex called the Kingsway Forum.
Now, 37 years later, the Kingsway Forum is better known as the Metro Inn Miranda, conveniently located adjacent to the Miranda Fair Shopping complex.
Originally called the Sunset Motor Inn, the motel has been managed by Transmetro Corporation since 1976 under the name Metro Inn Miranda.
Over the past three decades, the Forum at 522 Kingsway, Miranda has undergone some amazing transitions.
Many will still remember the movie theatre that originally occupied the lower levels. Miranda locals spent many a Saturday night eating popcorn and watching films while the motel guests loved having the movies right at their door-step.
After the movie theatre closed down, there have been fruit shops, electoral offices, a supermarket, hobby shop, a dentist, solicitors, a beauty therapist, screen printers and gyms that have all occupied various spaces in the void left by the movie theatre.
While the top floor of the building has seen function centres, restaurants and until recently, a finance company.
Throughout all the different businesses that have come and gone, the Metro Inn Miranda has stayed strong, reflecting the need for accommodation as more and more people are drawn to the Shire.
Family functions, medical appointments, business conferences and corporate training are some of the main reasons for travel to the Sutherland Shire and the Metro Inn Miranda has noticed an increase in demand over the past 3 years.
Still maintaining the 40 rooms it started with, the Metro Inn Miranda was heavily booked most of the time and making a reservation in advance was imperative.
"Accommodation in the Shire is limited and more rooms were needed so when the opportunity came up to take over the top floor, we took the advantage" says Dale Harlick, the Manager of the Metro Inn Miranda.
Over the past few months, renovations have been underway turning an office space into 14 brand new rooms. With spectacular views from the over-sized windows the new Superior floor is a beautiful addition to the Metro Inn Miranda.
The modern and tastefully decorated rooms offer a level of comfort and quality without the hefty prices you may pay in the city.
Complementing the family rooms and standard rooms on the existing floors, many of the new premier rooms have been thoughtfully designed with disabled access and adjoining rooms.
With the addition of the Superior floor, a new era has been ushered in and the name of the iconic property is scheduled to be changed to Metro Hotel Miranda.
Even with a change of name, the hospitality, service and dedication to excellence that the staff and management strive for will always be impressive, helping visitors experience the magic of the Sutherland Shire.

Superior Rooms on level 4 at Metro Inn Miranda
We have been staying at the Metro Inn Miranda at different times of the year since 2005 and it has become our second home whenever we visit Sydney.
On Friday 23 December, 2011 we sent an e-mail to enquire about booking accommodation from Tuesday 27 December, 2011 till Wednesday 4 January, 2012. We expected to get a reply back saying "Sorry no room at the Inn", like Joseph and Mary with the baby Jesus. Can you imagine our elation when the reply came back saying that their was room at the Inn and that we had a choice of either a Balcony Queen Room or a Superior Room on Level 4. Needless to say we replied straight away saying that we wanted the Superior Room.
On arrival we were handed the keys to Room 413 and we believe that we were the first guests to stay in that room. We had been over in April and stayed a short time as we had to attend a family funeral in Orange. Whilst we were there Dale Harlick told us about the plans for Level 4. When the lift doors opened at level 4 we were absolutely blown away with what we saw with the lovely colour scheme and the pictures mounted on the walls depicting the earlier history of the Sutherland Shire. We could not fault the accommodation at all, the decor was outstanding and very tastefully done. We took the liberty of looking through some of the other roomes on level 4 whilst we were there. We were most impressed with Room 407 which was obviously specifically designed for paraplegics and also has the adjoing room access to Room 408 if need be. We will certainly be highly recommending this to any paraplegic people whom we come into contact with and that are travelling to Sydney.
We commend you for the outstanding job that has been done on Level 4 at the Metro Inn Miranda. We can assure you that we will be highly recommending the Superior Rooms on Level 4 to all of our family, friends and work colleagues. In fact we would like you to know that we became the self-appointed honorary ambassadors for the Metro Inn Miranda after our first stay there in 2005. It has always been an absolute pleasure dealing with Dale and the Metro Inn Miranda Team. We have always been impressed with Dale's outstanding management and people skills. As we mentioned earlier we have been regular guests at the Metro Inn Miranda since 2005 and we are still dealing with the same staff members today. If all of your other Property Managers are of the same calibre as Dale Harlick then you must have an extremely happy and profitable operation.
We feel that you have made a very wise business decision and made a sound investment by spending the money on Level 4 at the Metro Inn Miranda, which will reap handsome profitable dividends for you.
In closing we would like to wish you, together with all your management and staff at all Metro Inns, a very Happy, Healthy, Safe and Prosperous 2012.
Yours most sincerely,
Bill & Robyn Lambert.
